Badgers and Wolverines Square Off
The Wisconsin football team (7-3, 3-3 Big Ten) welcomes the Michigan Wolverines (8-2, 6-0 Big Ten) to Madison for a conference showdown Saturday. Saturday will mark the last home game for 22 seniors on this year’s squad.
The game will be shown on ESPN with Dave Pasch, Andre Ware and Erin Andrews calling the game. Fans can also listen to the game on the Badger Radio Network with Matt Lepay and Mike Lucas, including 1310 AM here in Madison.
Wisconsin and Michigan will be meeting for the 61st time, with Michigan leading the all-time series 48-11-1. Michigan also leads the series 21-4-1 at Camp Randall Stadium; however the last time the two met, the Badgers came from behind to win 23-20 as John Stocco scored the game-winning touchdown on a quarterback draw with 24 seconds to play.
22 Seniors will be recognized prior to kickoff Saturday. Those seniors are; Justin Ostrowski, James Kamoku, Ben Landgraf, Joe Sibley, Paul Standring, Casey Hogan, Brandon Kelly, Sean Lewis, Jamil Walker, Andrew Weininger, Kurt Ware, Steve Johnson, Danny Kaye, Ken DeBauche, Andy Crooks, Marcus Coleman, Tyler Donovan, Nick Hayden, Paul Hubbard, Taylor Mehlhaff, Ben Strickland and Luke Swan. This year’s senior class has accumulated a 38-10 record in its four years. It ties the current school record for most wins by a senior class in school history.
At halftime, the team will be officially retiring former Badger Ron Dayne’s #33 jersey. Dayne, the 1999 Heisman Trophy winner is the all-time leading rusher in Football Bowl Subdivision history with 6,397 yards.
UW’s co-defensive coordinator, Mike Hankwitz, is a Michigan grad and started his coaching career under Michigan’s Bo Schembechler after earning three letters with the Wolverines. Four current Badgers hail from Michigan, including Quincy Landingham (Bloomfield Hills,), Allen Langford (Detroit), Aubrey Pleasant (Flint) and James Stallons (Macomb).
Wisconsin Notes:
Wisconsin is 24-1 at home since the start of the 2004 season, only LSU (25-1) has a better record … The Badgers have won 13 straight games at Camp Randall Stadium, the third-longest streak in school history … UW is looking to go undefeated at home for the second consecutive season, the last time the Badgers went two seasons without a home loss was 1950-51 (8-0-1).
